Polsden Lacey & VTTA Lunch

Baby (or grand daughter) sitting prevented me from riding out on Saturday 28 Jan but I introduced Millie to my clubmates and she enjoyed meeting you all especially Toni de!
Congratulations to Luke on the 5 week early arrival of Elspeth we all hope that mum and baby are doing well and that you will be back on your bike soon. You need to vent your frustration on the Surrey Hills asap

Before setting off home Millie had a go on the vegetable delivery bike and I hope it's not too soon before she is out riding with me! I would love to get a Kidies seat for her on the back of my bike but on a straw pole taken with my so called cycling mates they all said that due to my individual style of riding it is definetly not recommended! Strangely enough Barbara, Vanessa & even dad Wes seem to agree!

Turning to matters more veteran KPRC were both well represented and rewarded at the Surrey/Sussex VTTA annual lunch at Rowfant House splendidly organised by Ann Bath. The food was upto it's usual high standard (refer to Forum article on Sunday rides). Ray is seen here being presented by John Warnock guest of honour with his award for best age standard 25.

Ann is also presented with her National 24hr Ladies trophy for winning the 2011 Ladies Nat Championship organised by the Surrey/Sussex VTTA by Esther Carpenter.
Jake also received multiple awards and medals for both 10 and 25 mile best performance but unfortunately due to poor performance by photographer she was too quick for me and gone like a flash ( just like all of the events I rode against her in 2011 especially the 100). If anyone would like to see a blurred image I do have a photo as she raced away from Keith Warnock before my camera had time to focus. Anyway Jake you are our fastest Lady and we are all very proud of your achievments this year and look forward to our annual Dinner at the Burford Bridge when we can applaude you and Ann and all the other winners for a fantastic season.

Something different...

From the Surrey League mailing list - anyone interested?
We are a British Cycling club, but I am guessing that you don't need to be a BC member to do the event - although you might not be able to claim the discount (I rather think the discount is less than the cost of BC membership!)

I am writing as the Event Manager for RIDE24 to ask for your help. This unique and amazing event is the only 24 hour relay track race in the UK of its kind and I am really hoping you may be willing to mention this to your club riders as your guys are the PERFECT candidates for it! and with the link to British Cycling!

I really want to get some BC Club Team competition and to do this I have set up a Special British Cycling Club member discount (25% off the fees!)

So... have you heard of RIDE24?
It’s a 24 hour, 4 man team relay track race in Sussex at Goodwood Motorcircuit on 23 and 24 June. Riders take turns on the track and strategy is the name of the game. Well strategy and endurance racing!

Delicious hot food is served for free throughout the whole 24 hour and we also supply free energy gels and powders, 24 hour massages and mechanical support. It’s a wonderful way to spend a weekend with mates so please can you post something to your contacts and tell your guys in the club so that the riders can hear about it!

Just £45 for the whole weekend's racing, camping and having a blast! Then the team riders just need to try and raise £250 for Action Medical Research - a childrens charity - or there is also a sportive option too! Chris Boardman MBE will also be there to ride with the cyclists!

Please take 4 mins to look at the event video:

Make a note of the special code to enter to get the discount which is R242011 and mail me if you have any questions on sarahs@action.org.uk or call on 01273 735788.

How to update a Google Document such as the 2012 rides list in 3 steps

Step 1 - in your web browser (Internet Explorer is shown in the example below) open the google website by typing google in the address bar at the top of the screen.

Click on More and then select Documents

Step 2 - The Documents screen will then request your googlemail (aka gmail) email address and your password.

Step 3 - Now you will be able to view and select those documents which you have created or have access to. I think that I have created access rights for all club members but if you use more than one email address you will need to use the gmail address and email it to me at steve@kprc.org.uk. If you do not have a gmail address you will see at the top right corner of the Documents screen an option to Sign up for a new Google Account.

The rides list will then be displayed for editing.

If any of this does not work for you please leave a comment or email me and I will call you.

Bike Adventures

As some of you will know, I'm quite a fan of Bike Adventures and have used their services for several long rides, solo and tandem. So I was sorry to receive a letter from Kevin White, the principal, stating that he would not continue running Bike Adventures in 2012. This decision seems to have been reached at short notice, as the 2012 programme is already on the web-site.

The UK side of the business will continue to be run by Steve Wesson and Rob Tanti, both Bike Adventures ride leaders, and I have had a nice note from them informing me that they intend to offer the same service and that they have some new ideas for tours that they plan to introduce next season. For this season they will offer the Bike Adventures UK and Ireland programme - details are on the web-site.

However, there will be no European programme this year - which rather dents my Geneva-based Raids - and the very useful facility to drop off and pick up a bike at Ascot for transport to and from trips will no longer be available as Steve and Rob are based in Cumbria. Obviously, my loss may be someone else's gain, but I'm rather focussing on my loss, at the moment ...

So, that's the news. My thanks to Kevin and colleagues for past services, and best wishes to Steve and Rob for the next chapter.

Ed's 2012 New Year Meander to Richmond

Johnb had decided to take few week old cocker - OLLIE - for his second bike ride in the Pet Cab as can be seen below more like a child trailer. Ollie thought that Jake was some sort of Game Bird as he ruffled her feathers!

Alas it was time to leave as Carolyn un-ceremoniously stuffed him in the cab before he could escape and off he set as if in a Black Mariha!
