Many thanks to Ron P. for retrieving the signs on the Crawley Leg.
Apparently the revised route measured 21 miles according to our riders,
Frank Cubis
Disappointment for many, that the event was not a 25 - due to resurfacing work, of some sort, on the Southwater bypass over-running. Prior to the 07:30 start the northbound carriageway of the A24 was closed along the Southwater bypass and all traffic diverted through Southwater village. The executive decision was that the Interclub course would turn at Hop Oast and be of the order of 20 miles ( I figured just shy of 21m in the end). By the time I got to Hop Oast traffic was coming onto the RAB northbound along the Southwater bypass and I was tempted to ride the full 25 to get the distance under my belt as the weekends are fast disappearing this year. However I was running out of steam and it wasn't hard to turn short.
The weather was kind. Bright and sunny with a light wind in the North and West, giving a tailwind up Tollgate hill and blunting the speed on the way down, but also making the finish harder work than usual.
A big shame about the contractors: John was fired up for a PB (or at least a recent one), Simon had hopes of toppling Jackie off the top 25 spot and Stuart looked as though he could have beaten the hour - if only. I gather that at least one of the Redmon didn't ride when he heard it wouldn't be a full 25.
Thanks to Frank for getting up extra early to put the signs out on the Northern part of the course. I know the course, but not having ridden it for a while it was nice to have all the direction signs confirming that I was going where I ought to be.
We have been so roundly slaughtered by the Redmon that we have had to resort to cheating and include Stuart in the team so as not to make it look so bad!!!! (otherwise our time was 5:49:29).

**I shouldn’t have counted Stuart as he wasn’t on the Start Sheet, but it did look a tad more respectable.
Apparently the revised route measured 21 miles according to our riders, therefore I have calculated what the times might have been at 25, for what its worth.
