My first test blog to FRANK God Bless Him

Thank you Steve H for staying behind at club room last night to help me with new website. So here we go and I will try and add a photo from Frank's funeral.

On arrival at the Crematorium

Before the departure. The outriders were amazing and for the first time MMM could legitimately go through a RED light.

Brian gave a very good speech and made a fitting tribute to Frank who will be sadly missed by all. His organisation for the cyclists to accompany the cortege was first class.

Update on Frank - June 21st

On May 25th Frank was involved in an accident with a lorry and - based on his injuries - seems to have been literally run over. His daughter has started a facebook group for those interested in his progress and has posted daily as she and the family have been visiting him in the hospital. It helps keep the many people who are interested in his welfare informed, it helps her to write down each day's status and is a means for us all to offer a little support to the family.

We haven't transferred much of what she has said to here because, frankly, there hasn't been much to post beyond lists of injuries and what the hospital are doing to look after him.

One of his many injuries was a serious head injury and, today, the doctors have finally mentioned those two dreaded words that we hoped never to hear: "brain damage". To some of us - given the extent of his injuries - it will be no real surprise, though very unwelcome. They had him in an induced coma for 4 or 5 days immediately after the accident, but then he has taken a long time to wake up once they ceased the medication for that. Now he seems to be awake, aware and basically responsive, but not communicative beyond the basics of smiling and showing irritation/discomfort.

He's still got a long way to go for the rest of his body to heal, let alone his brain, and we can only hope that his fitness and fighting spirit will help; but the prognosis does not look good at this time and his family could do with any and all help and expertise from within the cycling community that could assist in his recovery or their coping with and understanding all that comes next.

I believe that he is currently in St Mary's, Paddington and, as his kidneys have been damaged and he currently needs dialysis, the doctors are talking of transferring him to Hammersmith Hospital, where that appears to be a speciality.

If you are interested in joining the fb group for updates on the situation, please comment here or contact one of the Phoenix 'officials' who can point you in the right direction (if you know me, you can friend me on fb and I can invite you into the group - feel free to unfriend me after!).

Test for MJM on New Blog

Dear Steve H, I am trying to get to grips with using new Blog and maybe my problem has been that my computer has an icon which hooks me into the old one, in which case I have to delete that screen cookie or whatever you call it. Please confirm that this blog has come out on the new one not the old one.
Best regards,
Miker M

Update on Frank

Frank Cubis competing in the Kingston to Worthing

There hasn't been much news on Frank, except that the docs have been finding more injuries: a broken collarbone and broken elbow on his right, as well as the apparently more serious damage to his left hand/arm.

But, finally, after 3 weeks he is showing real signs of waking up and interacting with those around him.

KPRC BBQ 11 June 2016

Thanks to Jake & Gary for allowing us to use your lovely house, garden and log cabin for a wonderful night. You are both stars to our club. So good to see Gary recovering from his accident by a lady motorist who was not paying attention! Lets hope that Frank who was so much more run over can make a similar recovery! Two photos of this evening.

KPRC Evening 10 #4 - Club 10 Mile Championships

Apologies for the delay in getting the results out. Both Dave and I had exactly the same time which threw the results spreadsheet out a little bit before Steve was able to work his Google Docs magic!
Thanks to Brian for handicapping and timing the event. Steve for putting out the signs, Dave and James for retrieving the signs and Joe for pushing off and spotting. A great team effort. Thanks to all the riders for getting out and supporting this event. It makes it all so much more worthwhile to put these club 10s on when they are supported by you, so all those that rode, give yourselves a pat on the back.

The biggest pats on the back go to Dale Lush and Rachel Watkins who are our new Club 10 Mile Champions. Chapeau. Dale managed this despite also giving himself a late start, which really is just showing off! There was literally nothing separating Dave and I, although I have managed to get myself above him on the results sheet as a result of my surname. J

Steve was first on handicap, while Gemma Tredwell joined us for her first TT and I am sure that it will not be her last. It was good to be joined by Alice Lethbridge again, who was giving her tt bike a quick road test before competing in the National 50 mile Champs this weekend. We wish her a fast and safe ride.

Finally, the next event on June 22nd is the 2up TT event, so pair up with someone and let me know by e-mail please. If you would rather ride alone, then that’s fine, but remember, there’s no points on offer.

Ride safe.

Alex

New 25ml TT mens record + Ladies con solation

In conjunction with tonights KPRC Champoinship 10 the following can serve as a photographic record of last Sundays record breaking team. Don't they look happy!

Commiserations to the ladies for attempting their record which almost certainly would have been broken were it not for Suzie puncturing at 18 miles. I feel sure that they will have another go in our 80th year and with a bit of luck emulate the men with there own record. Go for it girls I'm sure you can do it!
