Rumours of a downed tree and a car in the ditch - but either way an almighty queue on the A24 to get the Holmwood RAB (the Police had the road to Black Pond blocked off) and hence to the car park.

With the changeable weather all afternoon - wait 5 minutes for all four seasons, rinse and repeat, and would you like some hail with that? I think it was hailstones by the side of the road between the carpark and the start, but it looked for all the world like almost melted snow! - it was no surprise that there were so many NS.

  1. We tried to avoid the jam by going down back roads, but got turned back 3 times by flooded side roads. Would not have made the start in the end so went home.

  2. IF the wretched traffic news had even mentioned that there was a problem, going through Dorking would have been the way to go - as it was I expected the queue to vanish after the Cock Roundabout until I was actually sitting in the queue - then I was imagining that there must be a problem on the course, why on earth would there be a problem on the Dorking bypass?

Why on earth was it not mention on the numerous traffic bulletins I heard on my 2hr drive over?

The travel news on Wednesday night was about as useful as a chocolate fire guard.

You can imagine my surprise, earlier in the evening, on the M25 at finding two vehicles stopped after a shunt in front of me in the outside lane - and then further down the road the overhead signs admonished "slow accident" - when the traffic was doing 10mph and no sign of any further accident.
