Russell beat Simon WOW. A very hard course indeed, but fun. Rick also had two punctures before the start! Oh how he laughed!
ReplyDeleteI cycled to the event and as I approached Ockley a lean fast time trialist passed me, looking much like Chris Froome or Wiggo. I set off in hot pursuit and 15 minutes later caught up with him at the start line! I asked the rider how much training does he do and he replied "I train all the time, it is my job." Ah, I thought, so he is a professional, which sort of makes sense that he should be riding the same time trial as me. (?) Now up until this point I has no idea that the Rapha Condor kit he was wearing meant anything more than he was being fashionable. "So what is your training target this week?", I asked. He said that he tries to maintain 440 watts for 20 minutes. I thought about that for a moment and remembered that my turbo trainer rarely shows me exceeding 300 watts, and when it does, it rarely lasts longer than 20 seconds! Perhaps that is why he beat me by almost 10 minutes and set a course record. Well done to Elliott Porter for riding a local event and setting the benchmark high. I later checked him out on his team website to find that he is 8 inches taller than me and weighs the same and he is 33 years my junior!
DeleteWell done to Grant and Mike for winning the age category awards.
